A SUPERFIT Glasgow runner has lifted a world championship title … after running to the top of three mountains.
Jethro Lennox, of Pollokshields, won the Three Peaks Race in the Yorkshire Dales last weekend in 2hours, 53minutes and 39seconds, pipping last year's champion Rob Jebb to the £1000 prize and the prestige of the title.
The Long Distance Mountain Running World Championships saw competitors from around the globe taking on the 23.3-mile course that included 5275ft of ascent.
Jethro, publishing editor at Times and Collins World Atlases, runs at least twice a day and around 75 miles every week.
When he isn't taking on Ben Nevis at the weekend, he can usually be found running up and down a hill in Queen's Park or Kelvingrove … around 10 times!
The 31-year-old said: "My main aim this year was the British Championship.
"I was hoping to get into the top 10 in the Three Peaks, but on the day everything just clicked.
"I have been running all my life, but the scenery is much better on hill running than road running and you get the adrenaline rush of running down hill."
The Shettleston Harriers runner was given moral backing for the Three Peaks Race by girlfriend Fleur Gayet.
However, Jethro won't get much of a break. On May 17 he will travel to the next race in the British Championships, in Wales, as well as aiming for the World Mountain Running Trophy in September with a seven-mile hill run.
